I'm Mary and I'm a graphic designer and PM in the Seattle area. My resume and portfolio will tell you all about my experience, education and skills so I wanted to use this space to tell you about my design beliefs. I believe in functional design, not just meaningless pretty graphics. I believe the best ideas and solutions come from collaboration. I believe in timeless design that can evolve or extend as a business changes. I believe that planning and organization is necessary for accountability to exist. I believe that it is essential to remain green and growing.

Mobile Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau, Bothell, WA
August 2006 - February 2014
Cost-conscious project management of marketing and communications campaigns is my primary responsibility with the MBCVB. With a long history of success in cross-collaboration with marketing, administrative and sales teams, I provide multiple deliverables in print or electronic media, often beginning with full-scope project planning including budgeting and utilizing vendors as required. The key to my success and longevity with the CVB is clear communication with stakeholders and keeping them engaged, proper organization, prioritization and post-launch discussions on how to improve the process.
Mobile Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau, Mobile, ALNovember 2001 - June 2006
While full-time and on-site, I served the Bureau in numerous capacities. My main role was planning and producing electronic media campaigns and a wide variety of print projects that promoted the city of Mobile. An annual 42-page visitors guide (500,000 printed), marketing and sales plan (100+ pages), dining and lodging guide books (36-page; 55,000 printed), banner ads for TripAdvisor, Weather.com, AL.com, etc. Other responsibilities included content manager of the consumer web site utilizing CMS and back end tools and reviewing user statistics to hone our efforts. Additionally, I created billboard art, other outdoor signage and banners, trade show graphics and presentations for convention sales and tourism marketing.
Department of Art - University of South Alabama, Mobile, ALSeptember 2001 - April 2002
I taught intermediate classes on industry-standard software (Illustrator, Photoshop and QuarkXPress). I was also responsible for educating the students on design and layout principles, color theory, typography and the technical aspects of print production.
Department of Publication Services - University of South Alabama, Mobile, ALJune 1990 - October 2001
My primary role was to provide consultation with and project planning for clients of the University print shop, including the President’s office, Office of Admissions, Deans of academic colleges, University athletics, University-funded hospitals, the Nature Conservancy, Mobile United and many more. For the first three years, I was a layout artist and graphic designer lead. Due to my ability to handle a high volume of projects without compromising quality and client satisfaction, I was instrumental in all aspects of the print shop and subsequently promoted to supervisor in 1996 when we hired a junior graphic artist and an intern. My collaboration with the front office, pre-press technicians and press operators was essential for budgeting, time management and quality control. My proudest moment was designing and overseeing environmental graphics for the University’s pediatric cancer treatment center, the USS Hope.

Working collaboratively with Pixallure Advertising, I was lead designer for this unconventional and progressive design for a financial firm.
In 2013, the MBCVB rolled out a new identity. I was tasked with management and design of all new marketing collateral and all supporting collateral.
As a classically-trained painter, I love the opportunity to incorporate traditional media, such as water color, oil or acrylic, into my graphic work.
2011 and 2012 Projects
Every chance I get, I love to enrich my knowledge of photography. Food is my favorite thing to photograph because after you take the picture, you get to devour it.
I have had the privilege of working with Mary both as a colleague and a client for more than 10 years. For the first few years, we worked together in the same office. When Mary relocated across the country, her talents were so valuable that we retained her services as a project manager and graphic designer. I have been continuously impressed with her enthusiasm for her field as well as her ability to interpret what is in the mind of her client and transfer that to the designs she produces. She is consistent, reliable and a pleasure to work with.
